Cine Director and Marine Engineer Sohan Roy Honored with the Global Indian of the Year Award

Sohan Roy, the director of Oscar shortlisted movie DAM999 and CEO of Aries Group of Companies was awarded with the illustrious ‘Global Indian of the Year Award’ on 19th January, 2013 at a conclave on “International Unity and Industrial Growth’ held in Pune. He was honoured in recognition of his enormous contribution to the industry and to the country. The award was handed over by Her Excellency Smt. Pratibha Patil, Former President of India and other dignitaries present on the occasion were Hon. Sri. Harish Rawat, Union Minister for Water Resources and Hon. Sri. Bhishma Narain Singh, Former Governor of Maharashtra and Assam.

Sohan Roy, a ship designer by profession, started his career as a Marine Engineer thus becoming the first Naval Architect in India to join Merchant Navy. He has the global reputation as the Director of the Oscar selected movie DAM999 and the Creative Head & Project Designer of several award winning films & documentaries. By designing the largest steel snake boat in the world- Aries Punnamada Chundan, he became the first professional from the Maritime field to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.

His advocacy for corporate social responsibilities, revolutionary initiatives in his field of expertise and various other humanitarian initiatives were the reasons for conferring this prestigious award to him.

Sohan Roy is also a privileged recipient of Rajiv Gandhi Shiromani Award which was bestowed upon him by Citizens Integration Peace Society on 18th August 2013 for demonstrating tremendous resilience and tenacity in dealing with uncertainty, outstanding individual achievements and distinguished services to the industry and towards the progress of the nation. He was also honoured with the prestigious Indira Gandhi Sadbhavana Award instituted by the National Integration and Economic Council on 21st November 2013.
